Carl Sagan’s Ghost is a project of american composer Daniel Davis. The focus is on
the ambient side of electronic music and the latest output, titled “At The End Of It All”
is certainly no exception. Carefully designed and constructed, sonic landscapes you
can drown yourself in completely. For a moment, listening to multiple layers of sounds
echoing in spacious environments, discovering new subtle nuances on the sounds can
easily transport you to a place, where you can completely forget the surrounding world
momentarily. Just put on the headphones, find a comfortable position and switch off
the lights. Also recommended, the previous album “Darkness and the Light” on the
Earth Mantra netlabel. Some thoughts from the artist behind the sounds:

“Initially, this album was supposed to be an atmospheric celebration of spring
and summer, something warm, something happy. However, that didn’t quite pan
out. As I began to compose and then finalize these compositions, I noticed that
the album was taking on a darker tone. What I ended up with was an album that
seemed to contemplate death, although I don’t think the album is overly depressing.
It is somber, but there is still a hint of hope and happiness in a number of songs.”

  1. Absolutely stunning release. Easily one of my favourite’s of ’09. Definately one, if not – the, best ambient release i’ve heard. Just…wow!

  2. Simply magnificent. Once again, Daniel, you’ve raised your own bar to a seemingly unattainable height. I have confidence, tho, that you’ll find a way to surprise us once again and surpass your own insanely high standards.

Sincere thanks for giving us this and championing all the other netlabel releases.

  3. Seven letters, three words: I love it! Smooth, but yet it feels it is always busy enough to maintain you attention. It’s intimate, classy, organical, relaxing, cheerful at times, mysterious at others… The adjectives go on and on.

It is an album that is cleverly produced, as the tracks always have the feeling that they will lead somewhere.

If anybody asked me “Suggest me any good ambient music” I’ll definetly name drop Carl Sagan’s Ghost “At The End Of It All” as a top suggestion, even today in 2010.

  4. Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

I’m very happy that you’ve enjoyed the album. Knowing that people like it makes it all worth while.

    I appreciate your time.

  5. I really feel that this album displays a mastery of the the various elements in terms of sounds that it consists of. Thank you for the ride.

  6. CSG is a very life reflective yet paradoxical atmosphere. It’s cool, dark, serene, but with warm undertones that affirm your existence in the universe. A friend once gave me a word to describe the feeling you get when listening to music like Daniel’s: “Nostos” -Greek; for Homecoming. Only for me, it’s an inward journey, one I’ve already arrived at, and one where the music says I’m already home. It’s evident that Daniel lets the music play in him, it’s not forced or contrived. He creates through the soul… all ‘true’ artists’ playground.
